“Brand New” Doesn’t Mean “Defect-Free”

It’s a fair assumption — the car is fresh off the truck, so the paint must be perfect. In practice, it rarely is. Between the factory clear coat curing, transport across the country (often on an open car carrier), and dealership prep — a wash, sometimes a quick buff — most new cars pick up fine swirl marks, light scratches, or water spots before they’ve even been driven.

Why This Matters for Coating

Ceramic and graphene coating are transparent. They don’t hide flaws in the paint underneath — they seal them in, permanently, for as long as the coating lasts. A swirl mark that’s barely visible in dealership lighting becomes a lot more obvious once it’s sitting under a glossy, light-reflecting coating in direct sun. Correction before coating is what actually gets you the deep, clear finish people expect from a ceramic or graphene coating — not the coating itself.

How Much Correction Does a New Car Actually Need?

Usually not much — this is the good news. A single-stage correction (a light machine polish) is often enough to remove the fine marks a new car has picked up, without needing to go further. That’s exactly why single-stage correction is included as standard in every package we offer, rather than sold as an optional extra. Cars with more noticeable marks, or ones that have already done a few months on the road, sometimes need multi-stage correction — a more thorough process that also addresses deeper scratches — which is a $450 add-on.

What Happens If You Skip It?

The coating still goes on and still protects the paint’s condition at that moment. What it won’t do is remove or hide what’s already there. Skipping correction on a car with visible swirl marks means those marks are now protected too — sealed under years of coating rather than fixed.
