Not All Ceramic Coating Quotes Are the Same
“Ceramic coating” gets used loosely — some businesses use it to describe an $80 spray-on top-up, others mean a genuine multi-year professional-grade system. Before paying anything, these five questions will tell you which one you’re actually being quoted.
1. What brand or system are you certified to install?
Consumer-grade ceramic sprays and professional coating systems are not the same product, and the difference shows up in how long the result actually lasts. Ask specifically what coating brand is being used, and whether the installer is certified by that brand — certification usually means proper training on prep, application and cure times, not just buying a bottle off a shelf. We’re a certified NXTZEN applicator, which is part of why we’re comfortable backing our work with a proper multi-year warranty.
2. Is paint correction included, or is it extra?
Coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in underneath it — swirl marks, water spots, light scratches, all of it. If a quote doesn’t mention correction at all, ask directly whether it’s included. At Xee, single-stage correction is included in every package, with multi-stage correction available as a $450 add-on for paint that needs more work.
3. How many layers, and what’s the expected lifespan?
A genuine multi-year coating (3, 5 or 7 years is typical for professional-grade systems) should come with a clear answer here, not a vague “it’ll last a long time.” If the installer can’t tell you the coating’s rated durability, that’s worth noting.
4. What does the price actually include?
Wash and decontamination beforehand? An interior detail? Curing time before the car can get wet? A written warranty? Get this in writing so there are no surprises later.
5. What’s the aftercare?
A good coating still needs basic care — the right wash technique, the right products, avoiding automatic tunnel washes with aggressive brushes. Any detailer worth using should walk you through this as part of the handover, not leave you to figure it out.
