- Get the paperwork sorted first — registration, insurance, and a proper look over the dealership’s pre-delivery inspection report so you know the paint condition you’re starting from.
- Avoid automatic car washes for now. The brushes in most tunnel washes are one of the most common causes of fine swirl marks in paint that’s otherwise perfect.
- Be mindful where you park. Under trees means sap and bird droppings, both of which are acidic and can etch into unprotected paint within days, not months.
- Decide on protection before the first long drive, not after. Ceramic coating, graphene coating and PPF all work best applied to genuinely new, unmarked paint.
- If it’s an EV, know that some models run a thinner clearcoat than equivalent petrol models — worth factoring into how soon you get it protected.
